Fall Chess Tournament + Costume Party
Back by popular demand! Our regional chess tourneys are fun, competitive, and an all around good time. It's the season of costume fun! Dress up and play a friendly game. We will award medals and ribbons to grade level and division champions. Costume awards, too! Check in begins at 8:30 am, first round is at 9:00 am. Awards presented at 12:00 pm. This event is co-sponsored by South Central Service Cooperative and Mankato Community Education. -

Hands on Clay: Youth Handbuilding
Youth will learn handbuilding techniques while creating imaginative functional and sculptural clay projects, finished with colorful, personalized glazes. Session 1: In this fun and creative youth ceramics handbuilding class, students will learn how to build with clay using slab construction techniques while creating their own unique ceramic treasures! Young artists will design and build a decorative cake box with a lid, perfect for storing keepsakes or treats, along with a whimsical mushroom house or spooky haunted house sculpture. Students will explore texture, shaping, and assembly while developing foundational ceramic skills in a supportive studio environment. Students will paint and personalize their creations with colorful glazes to make each project truly one-of-a-kind. Session 2: In this imaginative youth handbuilding ceramics class, students will create two exciting clay projects: a handmade mug and a dragon’s eye sculpture. Young artists will learn basic handbuilding techniques such as shaping, attaching, and adding texture while designing a functional mug full of personality. They will also create a detailed dragon’s eye piece inspired by fantasy and mythical creatures, exploring texture, scales, and creative surface design. After firing, students will glaze and paint their creations to make them truly unique. Perfect for beginners and returning clay artists alike! -
Hands on Clay: Youth Wheel Throwing
Discover the magic of the throwing wheel by turning a lump of clay into vessels to share! Build on skills each week as you practice and grow strength. Learn about various types of glaze to turn you creations into shining showpieces. This course is taught by Pottery Studio mentors who are skilled in wheel work. -
Home Alone Safety
HOME ALONE SAFETY Melanie Schmidt (Instructor) Grades 2-6 & parent 1 Session Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids; but with opportunity comes responsibility. This course covers a variety of common scenarios and topics specific to boys and girls preparing to stay home alone, or stay home with younger siblings. Topics include, but are not limited to: sibling conflict, stranger danger, healthy choices, problem solving, and identifying emergencies. Each child is encouraged to attend with 1 adult. -
Learn to Lancer: Color Guard Flags, Rifles, + Poms Performance
Learn to Lancer is a program for youth in grades 2-10, who would like to learn the artistry of dance, movement, and twirling with Color Guard Flags, Rifles, and Poms. Participation in this course is introductory and will give youth the opportunity to learn skills that will lead to future success in the 77 Lancers Color Guard as well as our OWN performance opportunities at local events such as high school sports and regional competitions. Dates and times of local and regional events will be announced at a later date. Bus transportation to regional events is included in the registration fee. Learn To Lancer fee is for program participation and use of program equipment. Costumes, hair, makeup, and shoes are purchased by families and are personal property of the child / family at the completion of the program. -

Learn to Lancer is an exciting and fun activity with local and regional performance opportunities for youth in grades 2-10. If you are unsure if this is an activity for you, we want to give you a chance to try the program before you commit. If you are already committed to the Learn to Lancer season starting in January, you do not need to sign up for this mini camp. -

Adventure Days At Lincoln Community Center It is the end of summer but the adventure continues! Mankato Area Public Schools Community Education is hosting 2 full weeks of summer fun for youth in grades K-5. Each week will feature a mix of active play, STEM activities, Art, off site field trips and plenty of fun with friends. Sign up for the whole week or only specific days. Don’t delay! Red Cross Advanced Babysitter Training
The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course provides youth ages 11–15 with the information and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children. Participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety and safe play and first aid. Class fee includes the Babysitter Training manual. Participants earn certification in pediatric first aid, CPR, and AED. Participants should bring a water bottle and a cold lunch. -

VEX IQ Robotics (Competitive)
VEX IQ Robotics (Elementary Division) will begin in September with a MANDATORY Meeting on Tuesday, September 8, from 7:00- 8:00 pm at Lincoln Community Center in the Auditorium. Registration is limited and open ONLY to youth currently enrolled in grades 4-6 in Fall 2026. Due to program demand and VEX guidelines and grade requirements will be enforced. We will form teams of 2-3 students who will collaborate on all aspects of building, programming and driving the bot used to compete in virtual and /or in person VEX IQ competitions (with the goal) to qualify for the State VEX IQ championship in Spring of 2027 (date TBA). This is a competitive experience. Season runs from September - March (end date TBA and determined by qualifying success at region and / or state championships). Transportation to out of town contests (including state) is provided by parents of team members. Information re: tournaments, qualifying results and formats for competition have yet to be announced. Information will be shared with teams as it becomes available. The VEX IQ program is an early experience for elementary youth, interested in competing in VRC (VEX Robotics Challenge) in middle school or high school. VEX IQ does have a qualifying experience for the World Championship (Spring 2027). Youth / teams that qualify and want to participate in the World Championship will do so on their own via family and team fundraisers, led by the team parents. Community Education will pay team registration fees for invitationals and the state championship, as well as finance all necessary equipment for a season of competitive play. Zapping the ACT: Test Prep Seminar
ZAPS® test preparation seminars are carefully designed to help each student do their best on the ACT. Students who complete the ZAPS seminar—and practice our tips and strategies at home—typically raise their ACT scores by 1 to 4 points. In the 5-hour ZAPS seminar, students will learn strategies for improving in all four sub tests, take shortened practice tests that mirror the actual testing experience, and get suggestions for individualized study in the days leading up to the test. Attendees receive a comprehensive Study Guide and 24 practice test workouts with detailed answer explanations. Students should bring a calculator and two pencils to the seminar. The seminar includes a 45-minute lunch break; students are responsible for their own lunches or may leave the campus during the break to get lunch. Due to age of students, lunch is "on your own" and not supervised by staff. -
